Pygmalion was a doctoral thesis project of David C. Smith. It is the first large program to be written in Smalltalk. Pygmalion proved that computer programs can be written and executed graphically as opposed to using a text editor. The idea of using icons as representations of computer programs came from Pygmalion. Smith briefly worked on the NLS before joining the Star development team at Xerox.[1]
